Anna Ullman produces large works on paper and canvas with a series of fluid organic and graphic shapes in black and white, as well as splashes of bright color and glitter. Monoprinting, her specialty, is a form of printmaking that is more painterly, with organic shapes and lines that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals. "This adds a certain spontaneity and one-of-a-kind preciousness to each piece that I find extremely exhilarating," says Anna. "I never know what the print will look like until its pulled off the press- they are all unique from one another. Once its dry, I tend to work back into them in different mediums, choosing epoxies and combining techniques that are organic and unpredictable. One day a painting or print will look one way, and the next day that same piece may look completely different."
Anna Ullman graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Printmaking, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
